There's simply no quicker or easier way to take a rectal or an oral temperature!

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends measuring the temperature rectally in children up to 3-4 years of age when fever is suspected.
✔ RECTAL measurements are the fastest and the most accurate.
Lubricate the tip with petroleum jelly and gently insert ~1/2" (1 cm) into the child’s rectum.
ORAL use is a convenient method for children 5 years of age and above. Wait 15 minutes after the child has finished eating or drinking before taking the temperature.
ARMPIT (Axillary) use is also an option, although not as accurate as rectal or oral temperature in a cooperative child. From a medical standpoint, this method might provide inaccurate readings, and should not be used if precise measurements are required.
